Somatic work,
in plain terms

Your mind understands it. Your body hasn’t caught up.

This might sound familiar.

  • You replay conversations for hours after they end.
  • You know your patterns completely, and repeat them anyway.
  • You’re doing well by every outside measure. Something still feels off.
  • You over-explain, over-give, or go quiet, then feel it in your chest.
  • You say yes when everything in you meant no.
  • You’ve done talk therapy. It helped. It didn’t finish the job.

More than one? You’re in the right place, and nothing is wrong with you. No named pattern yet, just a sense something’s off? That works too. It’s often where we start.

What it is

Somatic means of the body.
That’s the whole word.

Talk therapy works with your thoughts and your story. Somatic work adds the part that gets left out: what your body is doing while you tell it. The shoulders that climb. The breath that goes shallow.

Those aren’t flaws. They’re responses your nervous system learned when it needed them, and kept running long after the situation changed.

Not a replacement. The missing half.

Talk therapy
Somatic work
Works with thoughts and story
Adds what your body does while you talk
Builds understanding
Builds the capacity to act on it
“Now I see why I do this.”
“I felt it starting, and chose differently.”

Most people arrive here because talk therapy took them as far as it could.

Why the body

A map has never moved anyone.

Insight is a map. It names the terrain and points to a way out. Most of us spend years collecting them: books, podcasts, therapy, late-night reading about our attachment style.

But you can know every road and still be standing where you started. The moment comes to take the turn, and something freezes, argues it away, or quietly takes the old road instead.

That’s not a discipline problem. It’s capacity, and it gets built where it breaks down: in the body.

We start by talking. As we do, I’ll invite you to notice what’s happening in your body. Sometimes that’s obvious. Often it’s subtle, and noticing “not much” is useful information too.

From there: breath, small movements, or simply staying with a sensation slightly longer than usual. Nothing dramatic. Nothing to perform.

Most people find the first session slower and more ordinary than they expected. Going slowly is the method, not a warm-up to it.

Who this is for

You already know your patterns

Often from years of therapy, or your own reflection. What’s missing isn’t more understanding, it’s being able to act differently when it counts.

Or you have no words for it yet

No named pattern, no tidy story, just a sense that something’s off. Recognising the pattern simply happens later in the process.

You don’t need trauma, a diagnosis, or the right vocabulary. Wanting to actually live differently is enough.

Where I’m not the right fit: if you’re in crisis or need clinical mental-health treatment, you deserve licensed clinical care, and I’ll gladly point you toward it.

Common questions

How is this different from talk therapy?
Talk therapy works mainly with thoughts and story, often where the understanding comes from. This is where you build the capacity to act on it: staying with what’s happening in your body a little longer, instead of shutting down or explaining it away.
Do I need to have experienced trauma?
No. Plenty of people come simply because they feel stuck, repeat patterns they don’t like, or want to know themselves more deeply.
Is there any touch involved?
No, never. Sessions are entirely conversation and self-directed body awareness.
How long does it take?
It varies. Some people notice small shifts within a few sessions; deeper patterns take longer. Packages of 4 or 6 sessions are available, see pricing.
Do you work online?
Yes, over Zoom, with clients across Malaysia and internationally. Online sessions work as well as in person.
